Keith Haney Racing’s first weekend fielding two entries

Summit Racing Equipment Keith Haney Racing’s first weekend fielding two entries at the Osage Casino & Hotel Throwdown at T-Town was filled with highs, challenges, and plenty of work in the pits, highlighted by Bobby Savedra III’s Pro 4.20 debut and an engine swap for the Black Widow.

Coming off recent success at the PDRA East Coast Nationals, Keith Haney and the Black Widow team elected to wait until Friday morning to make their first test hits of the weekend. Haney made two attempts before qualifying, but both runs were cut short by tire shake.

After Friday night rain forced officials to push the opening qualifying session to Saturday morning, Haney rolled to the line in the first pair of the day. However, a malfunction with the starting system created immediate issues. Once Haney went on the transbrake, the tree failed to activate. Despite the issue, Haney made a clean pull, and data indicated the run was on pace for roughly a 3.65-second pass. Just past the finish line, disaster struck as a massive nitrous backfire sent the scoop flying off the car.

The crew quickly went to work and completed an engine swap before the second qualifying session. Haney returned to the track and laid down a conservative 3.766 at 202.31 mph to secure a first-round matchup against Aaron Wells.

In eliminations, Haney again encountered tire shake in round one. He pedaled the car as far as possible before ultimately being forced to abort the run, ending the Black Widow’s weekend early.

On the other side of the trailer, Bobby Savedra impressed in his debut outing behind the wheel of the Black Mamba in Pro 4.20 competition. The team had not originally planned to compete this soon, but after recording back-to-back 4.20-second passes in testing, they decided it was time to make the jump.

Savedra delivered in his first appearance, posting a 4.331 and driving the finish line perfectly to capture his first career round win Saturday afternoon. His strong debut came to an end in round two after lifting early and breaking out, closing the weekend on a positive note with valuable experience gained.
