Keith Haney Racing Grabs Runner-Up
Keith Haney Racing Grabs Runner-Up at Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series Presented by J&A Service Smackdown at Flying H Drag Strip.
A spirited effort by the KHR team gave Keith Haney runner-up honors on Saturday Night after a full weekend of close races and great times. When it all came down to the line, Keith lined up alongside Kansas City local Robin Roberts. After purging the nitrous at the line, Keith would slide out of the groove and shut the car off as the #1 qualifier Roberts sped away for the victory.
The route to runner-up wasn't easy, with the KHR team pulling in the assistance of Blake Housley to weld and fix up a wounded Black Mamba on Saturday morning. The path to the final round started with a #6 qualifying slot with a 3.66s pass on Friday night. That #6 spot would give Keith a break in the first round of eliminations as Chris Juliano suffered damage to his car and allowed Keith to run a 3.73s pass unopposed.
Teammate Shawn Ellington and Blue would be the better of the two cars in qualifying, laying down a 3rd-best 3.61s pass on Friday night and setting him up with a matchup against MWDRS Newcomer Ryan Griffin in round one. Unfortunately Shawn would grab his season-first red light by -.017 seconds, robbing KHR of a second round showdown. Haney would match up against Griffin in the second round, and laid down a 3.66s pass in the daylight against Griffin's 4 second pass.
Keith would then find himself against the always quick Kallee Mills and "Scarlett," a match in which both made a great side-by-side race to the stripe, but the finish was spoiled before it even started by a Mills red light. "That was a personal race, one of the best all weekend. Neither one wanted to give that one up," said series announcer Luke Clevenger.
"I have to give a huge shoutout to my amazing Team, who have put in countless hours of hard work and dedication to get us to this point. And a special mention to Brandon Switzer, who has been an absolute rockstar throughout this journey. I'm so grateful to have them all by my side," said Keith Haney via social media. "And a huge shoutout to my friend Robin Roberts on winning his first race in pro mod."
Keith Haney Racing will be back in action at home at Tulsa Raceway Park for the Ronnie Hobbs World Finals at the Double Down in T-Town on October 17-18 at Tulsa Raceway Park. With free GA and $25 for a car to park, they hope to see you there as they wrap up the MWDRS season in style!
